Well, it only took a week (and half the time she was asleep) but Stella seems to have charmed all the staff of the eighth floor. No, she has not been able to make chesed meals for the other patients, but her friendly demeanor and attitude reverberates well with nurses who are used to being yelled at by people in pain. I mean think about it, could you smile and say “when you get a chance” if you were requesting morphine?
One nurse even gave her the nickname “Stellush Chamuda.” Loosely translated, it means “Dear Stelly.”

Lately, I have been asking people to pray for my wife’s health. We are anxiously awaiting the results of a biopsy performed on “something” (excuse the medical term) that they found in her stomach. No, they have ruled out leftover cholent beans.
Now, I don’t really care if you are a black-hatted, beard-to-the-ground Satmar Hasid, a lesbian, pregnant Reform rabbi, Christian, Buddhist, Shinto, Muslim, or really frum agnostic. If you believe that there is some Unified Force that can control the universe, do me a favor and ask Him/Her/It to please cut Stella some slack.
In the Jewish tradition, we believe that using a person’s Hebrew name is important. I’m not sure why because believe me, G-d knows Stella very well. If he wanted to give us all an example of how chesed (kindness) should be performed, then Stella is the super-model. The only one who would say that Stella is not the embodiment of kindness would be Stella herself — and that kind of proves my point.

There may be those who read CTY who have labeled me “right-wing.”
Afterall, I do not believe that the formation of a Palestinian State that wants to blow up my house would be a good thing. Perhaps I am “right-wing” since I do not believe that throwing people out of legally built houses is such a great idea. Or maybe the reason that I am “on the right” is that I have made it clear that I don’t believe the trading of 10,000 Jewish residents of Gaza was worth the 10,000 rockets that we received in return.
All this is true, so maybe I am a “right-winger.” But when I read with disgust the actions of the lunatics who also fall under the term, I feel I have to speak up. Let no one think that all of us settlers or right-wingers agree with the extremists who usually speak in our names. Case in point: This Rabbi’s call for settlers to shoot at Israeli solidiers.
If he was a Palestinian, he would already be in jail.

Well, technically it’s an AP story that appears in the New York Times, but that’s not my point.
The article discusses the impact of Ehud Barak’s announcement that he’s leaving the Labor Party. Here’s the part I don’t like:
“Labor has been the sole moderate party in Netanyahu’s coalition, which is otherwise dominated by religious and nationalist parties that oppose major concessions to the Palestinians.”
Now before everyone clicks the comment button to say that I am overreacting — because Netanyahu’s coalition in fact does oppose major concessions to the Palestinians — just think about this: have you ever seen a New York Times article that included language that even remotely sounded like:
